Opening of new ethical fashion website
Hello!!
I am Charlie Boots and this is my first blog post for my ethical fashion website. I believe that, apart from food, fashion is the theatre that offers the most people the best opportunity to really think about the consequences of their actions when purchasing a product or service. By the simple process of buying clothes, we are saying something about how we see ourselves as well as how we would like others to see us. I believe that ethical fashion allows us to say something about how we feel about ourselves as well as how we would like others to feel about us. It used to be a choice between feeling good about a dress made of hemp BECAUSE it was made of hemp, and having to compromise on the design, or feeling good about a dress BECAUSE you looked fantastic, it was beautifully made, but ethically questionable in terms of the labour or materials used in its construction.
At Charlie Boots, we believe that those days are behind us and that there is no need to choose between style and conscience. We are an ethical fashion boutique that simply will not compromise on either of our core beliefs that design-led couture fashion can be both affordable and ethically sourced. How do we do this? It is not as difficult as it sounds. Primarily, 100% of our designs are in- house and handmade in the UK by people who take pride and care in their work. No factories, no sweat shops (these can exist in the Uk as well as overseas) and fair pay for the talented group of people who make this ethical boutique possible by virtue of their experience and attention to detail.
In addition, we are truly fastidious about how we source our fabrics and material. If you choose to buy a piece from the Charlie Boots collection, you do so in the knowledge that we have personally sourced, inspected and are happy with every square inch of the piece. This is as true of the quality as well as the ethical history of our work. We care. We stand by our product. Our name and our values are all we have. In short, you buy a top made of vintage 30’s fabric from Charlie Boots and we may very well know whose grandmother got married in it . We will certainly know the name of the person who made the top.
At Charlie Boots, we don’t like to preach or say that our way is better than everyone else’s way (we all know who they are and what they do) we just want to do things our way, and we hope that it’s your way too.
